AP United States Government & Politics

    Summer Assignment

Welcome to AP Government! We have an exciting year planned. To better prepared for our experiences next year and for your AP Exam, you will need to complete five online modules and consider an extra credit opportunity throughout the summer.

    Sign Class Roster (Required)

Please sign the class roster list verifying that you are enrolled in the Schoology course before May 31st.

    5 Schoology Modules (Required)

There are 5 modules on your AP Government Schoology course. The first module is due on July 2nd.  The due dates are every two weeks throughout the summer, however you may complete them as early as you desire to accommodate any summer plans you may have.  Completion of each module should take about 45 minutes.

    Engaged Citizen (Strongly Recommended)

This project gives you a behind the scenes look at how decisions are made and the impact officials and agencies have on communities. Past reactions from students has been that this became one of their favorite activities.  Working for a big name candidate (i.e. Presidential/Congressional Candidate) gives you an overview of the government as a whole, however when you work for local candidates (i.e. State/County/City/School Board Representatives), you can become friends with the local leaders and create networks for yourself!

Your assignment is to volunteer this summer for one of the following:

    • Any political candidate (http://elections.delaware.gov/ - click View List of Candidates)
    • A political party of your choosing
    • A pre-approved shadowing/tour (i.e. Legislatures, Courts, etc.) – 3 hour maximum

If you call any candidate running for office and tell the person that you would like to volunteer, he or she will jump at your offer! Be bold and make the phone call, not just an email. I purposefully make you research and make the contact for this activity, though I will share any offers that are presented to me or from you. Be proactive! Hours may begin upon receiving this letter. Please have someone sign a document or email me verifying your volunteer hours.
