    6001 French 1 (1 credit)

    The introductory course in French is designed to develop basic language and communication skills, with an emphasis on fluency rather than accuracy in the language. At the same time students will receive information on some cultural and social aspects of peoples living in the French-speaking countries. Classroom activities include role-playing and the acting out of short dialogues.

    6002 French 2 (1 credit)

    The four basic skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) are improved and expanded.  An emphasis is placed on reading comprehension and the use of the language in role-play and imitation of life situations.  Students’ knowledge of the many French-speaking areas of the world will be broadened. Prerequisites: a final grade of C or better in French 1 or permission of the teacher.

    6003 Honors French 2 (1 credit)

    Honors French 2 covers all the topics of French 2 with additional emphasis on grammar, reading, and composition skills. Prerequisites: a final grade of B or better in French 1.

    6004 French 3 (1 credit)Versailles

    Students expand their competency in conversation and listening comprehension.  Reading and writing skills continue to be developed.  Various aspects of the French-speaking world and their cultures are included. Prerequisites: a final grade of C or better in French 2 or permission of the teacher.

    6005 Honors French 3 (1 credit)

    This course allows for growth in the goals as outlined in French 3. Fluency in the language is broadened through a variety of themes and activities. Reading and writing strategies are emphasized. This course progresses at a faster pace than French 3. Prerequisites: a final grade of B or better in French 2 or an earned credit in Honors French 2.

    6007 Honors French 4 (1 credit)

    Honors French 4 is an advanced course, which will be taught in French with emphasis on oral proficiency, composition, and reading comprehension. It will be a humanities course dealing with the history, art, and music of France. Prerequisites: a final grade of A or better in French 3 or a final grade of C or better in Honors French 3.

    6009 AP Language French 5 (1 credit)

    This course emphasizes the skills assessed in the exam itself.  Students will read various passages from French literature and current articles to broaden their reading ability and vocabulary. Extensive lessons in writing and grammar skills are included. The students will also have an opportunity to participate daily in the target language so as to improve both listening and speaking proficiencies. Students in this course are prepared for the AP Examination and should plan to take the exam.   Prerequisites: a final grade of B or better in Honors French 4.
