    6401 Spanish 1 (1 credit)

    The introductory course in Spanish is designed to develop communication skills.  Speaking and listening comprehension are emphasized. In addition to vocabulary building, grammar is also introduced. Reading and writing skills are developed. An appreciation of the customs and culture of Spanish-speaking nations is also included in this basic course.

    6402 Spanish 2 (1 credit)

    This course is designed to increase language proficiency and vocabulary.  An emphasis is placed on reading comprehension and the use of the language in imitation of life situations.  The student’s knowledge of the many Spanish-speaking countries of the world will be broadened. Prerequisites: a final grade of C or better in Spanish 1 or permission of the teacher.

    6403 Honors Spanish 2 (1 credit)

    This course covers all the topics of Spanish 2 with additional emphasis on grammar, reading, and composition skills. Prerequisites: A final grade of B or better in Spanish 1.

    6404 Spanish 3 (1 credit)          

    This course continues the emphasis on the communicative aspects of the language, through a variety of activities. In addition, through a series of readings the students will expand their language skills and increase their cultural awareness. Prerequisites: a final grade of C or better in Spanish 2 or an earned credit in Honors Spanish 2.

     
    6405 Honors Spanish 3 (1 credit)

    This course allows for growth in the goals as outlined in Spanish 3. Fluency in the language is broadened through a variety of themes and activities. Reading and writing strategies are given great attention. This course progresses at a faster pace than Spanish 3. Prerequisites: a final grade of B or better in Spanish 2 or a final grade of C or better in Honors Spanish 2.

    6407 Honors Spanish 4 (1 credit)

    Honors Spanish 4 is an advanced course, which will be taught in Spanish with emphasis on oral proficiency, composition, and reading comprehension.  It will be a humanities course dealing with the history, art, and music of Spain and Latin America. Prerequisites: a final grade of A or better in Spanish 3 or a final grade of B or better in Honors Spanish 3.

     
     
    6408 Advanced Placement Language Spanish 5 (1 credit)  

    This advanced placement course is for those students interested in perfecting oral and grammatical skills. Students must be self-disciplined, motivated, and able to work independently. There will be some reading of major literary works, but the emphasis will be on perfecting skills to pass the Spanish Advanced Placement Language Exam. Students in this course are prepared for the AP Examination and should plan to take the exam.  Prerequisites: a final grade of B or better in Honors Spanish 4.
