Since 1993, at the request of the Brandywine School District the Army JROTC program was added to the Mount Pleasant High School Curriculum. Students attending Mount Pleasant can take this course as an "Elective". The United States Army provides funding to the Brandywine School district for 50% of the Annual Army JROTC instructors teacher salary employed by the Brandywine School District.

The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) teaches high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline.

The mission statement reflects the overall meaning and purpose of JROTC, which is “To Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens” by preparing high school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens.

The program promotes graduation from high school by providing the curriculum called “Leadership Education and Training" (LET), and rewarding opportunities that will benefit the student, community, and nation in the present and future. Though JROTC is an acronym it has transcended its original name; therefore, it will henceforth be referred to as JROTC, A Character and Leadership Development Program.

Currently over 100 + students are enrolled in Army JROTC at Mount Pleasant High School for school year 2017-2018. There are 4 levels in the Army JROTC Leadership Education and Training Curriculum. Level I ( Freshman/1st Year), Level II (Sophmore/2nd year), Level III (Junior/3rd year), Level IV (Senior/4th year). A student does not have to take all 4 levels/years of JROTC to participate. Although highly encouraged to start taking JROTC upon entering Mount Pleasant in your 9th grade year, a student can also enroll in their 10th, 11th or 12th grade year. Students who wish to pursue a career serving in our Armed Forces after graduation from Mount and who have received a satisfactory grade in JROTC for at least 3 years may be eligible for advanced promotion upon entering the Armed Services. Each military service recruiter can provide more details about advanced promotion.

Current students in the Mount Pleasant Junior ROTC program will be visiting Talley, Springer and PS DuPont Middle Schools in early 2018. They will provide 8th grade students and guidance counselor’s information about JROTC Program at Mount Pleasant as they choose their elective courses for their 9th grade year 2018-2019.
