• Dear Parent/Guardian,

RE:       Peanut and Tree Nut Allergies

Food allergies affect the lives of millions of people.  Some food allergies are more serious and are considered to be life threatening.  The “most common” life threatening foods are peanuts, tree nuts and shellfish.  Strict avoidance of the offending food is important in the prevention of the food-allergic reactions.

Over the course of 7 years, School Nutrition has removed all peanut and tree nut items from the menu except for the peanut butter/jelly uncrustable sandwich. Due to the increased number of students with life threatening Peanut/Tree Nut allergies, Brandywine School Nutrition has decided to eliminate peanut butter and jelly uncrustable sandwiches in all K-5 Buildings effective immediately. Although this was a difficult decision to make, we feel that it is best for the students.  School Nutrition will replace the peanut butter and jelly uncrustable sandwich with deli style sandwiches.

For parents and guardians who pack their children’s lunches, please consider substituting peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, peanut butter cookies or homemade goodies made with peanuts or tree nuts for non-peanut/tree nut foods (if at all possible).  We truly understand that this can be a difficult task but any help from you is most appreciated.

    Thank you for your support.
