Welcome to 6th Grade Social Studies!
As the weather has changed outside, so has the heating and air conditioning inside. It would be a good idea to start bringing a light sweatshirt or fleece that you carry from class to class. Temperatures from one classroom to another can, and do often, vary greatly.
UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES:

November 6th: NO SCHOOL - Election Day
November 12th: NO SCHOOL - Veterans' Day
November 15th: 1st Marking Period Ends
November 16th: NO SCHOOL - Grading Day for teachers
November 19th - 23rd: NO SCHOOL - Thanksgiving Break
Current Happenings:
Tuesday & Wednesday, October 23 & 24: Students in periods 1, 3, 7, & 8 are wrapping up the last regular lesson in our Mental Mapping unit. They have a little bit of homework to finish. All students from these four classes need to complete their cartogram representing world population, set to the scale provided by their data set. Once created, students should label and color in each continent, preferably with a different color, so that one can see where one continent stops and the next starts. Cartograms are heavily distorted at times, so the color is a necessary part of the assignment.
Materials for Creating a Cartogram
Thursday, October 4th: Students in Periods 1, 3, 7, & 8: Students have now all received directions and a rubric for the Cartographic Curiosity Projects, mentioned above. B-Day students will visit the school library on Friday, 10/5 and A-Day students on 10/8, for an opportunity to pick up some resources to help in creating this project. Due dates for both A and B day classes are listed above and links to the materials distributed to students can be found below.
