• 8th Grade Science

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to 8th Grade General Science with Mr. Williams. This year our students will be covering four units to help prepare them for High School. The Units are Transformation of Energy, Weather Systems, Planetary Systems and Ecosystems. Each Unit consists of Lab Investigations that involve a hands-on, visual and reading approach to learning the material covered in 61 separate lessons.  Each should take 1 to 2 class periods.

Students are required to have a Lab notebook to keep all of their work organized and in one location.  The lab Notebook is used for each class investigation and will be necessary for open note tests. The Notebook is set up by the student during each class and has 9 sections each for most investigations. These sections include; Essential Question, Notes, Reflection Questions, Data, Graphs, Summary, Apply What You Have Learned and Lab Illustration.

This year we focus on the Units and making connections with what is learned in class to the outside world.  All that we cover has a real life application that concentrates on natural or human events and phenomena. This will be done through the lessons and Apply What You Have Learned question at the end of each Lab Investigation.

All progress and grades are posted on the Brandywine School District Home Access Center website.  Those grades may change as the students make progress through a lab investigation. Each Investigation is considered a test and involves many steps that require math and language arts as well as science skills.

The students will be graded on their performance on Lab Investigations and Tests. Each will be worth 5% of their marking period grade.  This requires focus, following the procedures in the Lab Investigations and staying on task.

    Let’s have a great year!

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Williams
