• Teacher Qualifications

    Under the Federal No Child Left Behind legislation, parents have the right to ask for the following information regarding their child’s classroom teachers:

    • Whether the Delaware Department of Education has licensed or qualified the teacher for the grade levels and subject matter he or she teaches;
    • Whether the Delaware Department of Education has decided that the teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances;
    • The teacher’s college major, whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and, if so, the subject of the degrees; and
    • Whether teachers’ aides or similar paraprofessionals provide services to parents’ children and, if they do, their qualifications.

    You may access this information through the Delaware Educator’s Data System (DEEDS) website: http://deeds.doe.state.de.us/. You may also contact the school office to receive an Information Request Form.

    The Brandywine School District is committed to hiring outstanding educators who meet all required guidelines. There have been times where teachers who were highly qualified in other states need time to fulfill additional requirements in order to meet regulations set by the Delaware Department of Education. Should this occur, we are required by federal law to notify parents whose children are being taught by an un-highly qualified teacher for more than four consecutive weeks of instruction. Notification will be sent via U.S. Postal Service.
