Zachary Christie Presents In S.T.E.M Classes

After having spent four years extensively researching computer hardware, learning how to build computers, and after having saved funds from gifts, Zachary Christie was able to realize a dream of constructing his own computer.

During this week in all of Mr. Fawks's S.T.E.M classes, Zach shared out his experience and his amazing computer.  As students watched, Zach removed the graphics card and had students feel the warmth of the device.   After explaining the cooling systems, he proceeded to pull out the CPU so that students could see the "brains" of the computer.  Students then passed the memory cards around as Zach continued to explain the features of his constructed computer.  Assembling the computer was completed with a few snaps and the reattachment of cables.  

 

 

Students then watched as Zach demonstrated several of the programs installed on his computer.  Windows 10 booted up quickly because of the Solid State Drive.  Zach intrigued the students with the Kerbal Space Program, a game where players create and manage their own space program; build spacecraft, fly them, and try to help the Kerbals to fulfill their ultimate mission of conquering space. The level of engagement was high as Zach shared out his expertise and knowledge of computer building.

 

  

 

Mr. Cheatwood, Principal of P.S. duPont Middle School, made the following statement after having participated in Zach's computer presentation.
