• Mr. Robert Baronio – Director of Bands/Springer Middle School

    A native of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Mr. Baronio is a graduate of Penn State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education in 1990 and his Masters degree in Music Education from Southern Oregon University in 1997.

    Mr. Baronio began his teaching career in 1990 at Hanby Junior High School of the Brandywine School District.

     

    In 1994, Mr. Baronio became the band director at Springer Middle School.  Under his direction the band program has tripled in size and has included three concert bands, two jazz ensembles, woodwind ensembles, string ensemble, beginning band class, Steel Drum Ensemble, and a chapter in the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

     

    The Springer Middle School bands have received Superior Ratings at regional and national festivals and have been awarded the prestigious “Judge’s Choice Award” six times since the school has been re-opened.  The band students have had the honor of working with many outstanding clinicians and soloists including Dr. Brian Bowman, Fred Hughes, Denis DiBlasio, James Swearingen, Elliot DelBorgo, Dave Detwiler and Dave Schiff.

     

    Along with his many teaching duties, Mr. Baronio serves as Co-Director of the Diamond State Concert Band and performs as a freelance musician.  Mr. Baronio is still active as a performer with many professional bands in the region and has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.  Mr. Baronio has also had the honor of performing with The Four Tops, Bob Hope, Jay and the Americans, The Dallas Brass, Allen Vizzzutti, Eddie Daniels, Frederick Fennell, Jimmy Walker, Wayne Bergeron, Roger Ingram, Chris Vadala, Col. John Burgouis of the United States Marine Band.  Mr. Baronio has also performed at The Queen, the Showboat and Resorts Casino in Atlantic City, Lincoln Center in New York City, The Orange Bowl in Miami, The Ginger Rogers Theatre in Oregon, The Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and the House of 500 in Florence, Italy.

     

    Mr. Baronio is a member of Phi Mu Alpha, The Delaware Music Educator’s Association, Music Educator’s National Conference, International Association of Jazz Educators, and is a multiple year honoree of Who’s Who of American Educators.  Mr. Baronio had the honor of conducting the Delaware All-State Jazz Band in Dover in 2008.

     

    Mr. Baronio currently lives in north Wilmington with his wife Kris, their two sons, David and Vincent, their daughter, Alyssa, and their dog Belle.
