District-wide, 89% of middle school students and 48% of high school students are enrolled in arts courses, including visual arts, music, and performing arts.  80 students from Brandywine were named to All-State Band and Chorus for 2015, and represented 25 chairs, as some students participated in multiple musical programs.  Brandywine's arts programs are recognized regionally for their excellence. Brandywine students can begin participation in band, orchestra, and chorus through music education in the fourth grade at all elementary schools.  The District added a Strings Program in 2003 and we provide strings instruction at every school. 

 

Annual arts events and activities include All-State Programs in Band, Chorus, Orchestra and Jazz; Stringfest; District Choral Festival; Young Brandywine Arts Exhibition.  The Art and Music Departments are working together to create a new Summer Fine Arts Institute for the summer of 2016 school year. 

District-wide, Brandywine students are involved in a variety of student organizations, many of which are focused on developing character, leadership and community service.  These include Key Club, National Honor Society, Student Government, Leader Corps, Science Fairs, Science Olympiad, Math League, Model United Nations, Academic Bowl, Technology Student Association, Environment Club, Junior ROTC, Debate Club and Drama Productions.  Students in K-12 also participate in the Odyssey of the Mind program.

The Young Brandywine Artist's Exhibit is an annual event involving students from every school in the District.  Each year, approximately 1,000 works of student artwork are on display at the Blue Ball Barn, which are viewed by hundreds of parents, students, and community members.  The exhibit is an important element in the District's ongoing commitment to enhance arts opportunities for all students, and support the goals of the District's ongoing commitment to enhance art opportunities for all students, and supports the goals of the District's Strategic Plan.  The exhibit takes place in the spring of every year.

Brandywine students have opportunities to benefit from several intercultural exchange programs, which in the past have included exchanges with students from Torgau, Germany and Lorenzo, Spain.  Foreign languages are offered at the secondary level in French, German, Italian, and Spanish, including honors-level and advances placement courses.
