    The Brandywine School District covers 33 square miles in Northern New Castle County, Delaware, encompassing a portion of the City of Wilmington, the towns of Claymont and Bellefonte, and the village of Arden.  Click here for the 2015-2016 Fact Sheet.

     

    Facts about our students:

     

    • Total Student Enrollment – 10,740
    • 44% of our students take Advanced Placement courses
    • Brandywine offers the rigorous International Baccalaureate program from grades 6-12
    • We offer the state's only fulltime, self-contained gifted program in grades K-8
    • More students choice into the District rather than out by a 3 to 1 ratio
    • The district spends $14,458 per pupil.  Of this, approximately 76% is spent on direct instructional needs (compared to 70% statewide), 23% on support and operations (compared to 29% statewide), and only 1% on general administration. 
    • Our District-wide SAT average scores:  Math – 448;   Critical Reading – 438;   Writing – 433.  All are higher than the state averages.

    • 53% have a Masters degree; 46% have a bachelor’s degree; 1% have a Doctorate.
    • 41 teachers have National Board Certification (the highest credential available, nationwide)
    • Our new teachers had, on average,  a 3.5 GPA in college
    • Our teachers have an average of 13 years teaching experience
    • Beginning teachers (bachelor’s degree with no experience) earn $37,311 annually; our top of scale teachers (master’s degree plus 45 credits, plus 30 years teaching) earn $80,426 annually
